MELPOFLAT The title, Melpoflat, is a combination of ‘Melpomene’, the goddess of tragedy, and ‘Flat’, which means a specific floor or flat surface of architecture. Melpoflat shows the direction to the afterlife where dead objects exist, and takes an optimistic attitude toward death left in reality. This work consists of two mediums. The first is a virtual architectural space, about the afterlife where dead objects live a new life. The second is a physical piece, semantically composed of dead bodies and broken ceramics. Through contrasting expression methods for the images - the fusion of cutting-edge digital media and the oldest pottery - the artist talks about the boundary between physicality and non-materiality, death and life that contemporary people have.


제목인 멜포플랫은 비극의 여신인 ‘멜포메네(Melpomene)’와 건축의 특정 층이나 납작한 면을 뜻하는 ‘플랫(Flat)’으로 조합되었다. 멜포플랫은 죽은 사물이 존재하는 사후세계로 가는 방향성을 보여주며, 현실에 남겨진 죽음을 낙관하는 태도를 취한다. 이 작업은 2개의 미디엄으로 구성되어 있다. 첫째는 가상건축공간으로, 죽은 사물이 새로운 삶을 사는 사후세계에 대한 것이다. 두 번째는 물리적 조각으로, 의미론적은 죽음을 맞이한 물성의 사체-깨진도자기로 구성되어 있다. 같은 이미지에 대한 대조적인 표현방식-최첨단 디지털 미디어와 가장오래된 도자기의 융합-을 통해 동시대가 가지고 있는 물성과 비물성, 죽음과 삶에 대한 경계를 이야기 한다.
